Map Release: Cathedral
This weekend’s event features the return of Cathedral, bringing our current roster to twenty-five maps!
Background
Cathedral started as a general-purpose build back in 2012 by two friends from Sweden, Daniel and Erik, on the now retired TeamVareide server. Eventually, it was repurposed on MCTIMV—the first Trouble in Mineville server, by clankstar and Vareide—as a Trouble in Mineville map, where it was one of the three very first maps for the game, alongside Mineville and SkyTemple (later known as Sky Lands).
Huge thanks to Daniel for being a pleasure to talk to, and for granting us permission to use the map!
The traitor trap
There is a secret room only traitors can enter. One of the sides has a button which fills the room below with lava when pressed by a traitor. Activating the trap also reveals an escape route to the corridor below.
The entrance door is destroyed either when the trap is activated, or automatically 30 seconds after a player has entered the room.
New Event Format: Twilight in Mineville
This weekend we’re also introducing a brand-new Trouble in Mineville experience! Meet Twilight in Mineville, a new event format inspired by the popular role-playing game Town of Salem.
The event features a day/night cycle and brand-new innocent and traitor roles.
Day/night cycle
Time during games will follow a day/night cycle.
Each phase lasts one minute, and features unique effects depending on the roles in play.
The game normally starts at 6 AM, though some maps feature a bonus night that makes the game begin at 6 PM instead, giving traitors a head start.
For the best experience, we recommend using vanilla brightness (that is, disabling fullbright/gamma modifications) and enabling note block sounds.
Innocent roles
The event also features brand-new roles for exciting new innocent and traitor gameplay.
- The Bodyguard: you can block with your sword to protect nearby players.
- The Inspector: you can use Detective Sticks, and you can get one by identifying bodies.
- The Psychic: every two days, you receive a report that analyzes who the traitors may be.
- The Survivor: you gain karma by surviving, not by killing traitors.
Two of the new innocent roles will appear in each game.
Traitor roles
- The Janitor: once per night, you can hide a dead body.
- The Vampire: once every other night, you can bite an innocent that will join the traitor team.
- The Witch: once every other night, all dead bodies will turn aggressive.
Only one of these traitor roles may appear in any one game.
Minor changes
The update also brings some other small fixes and changes:
- The traitor and assassin maps are now hidden to other players when in your hand, so you no longer risk revealing your role if you are caught holding one.
- Adjusted creeper AI to make it more likely for creepers to go after players when they are spawned. We are working on improving creeper AI even further, but we need to make a few more adjustments before it is ready.
Release date
Cathedral and the Twilight in Mineville event will be released together on Friday, Nov 1st at 8PM CET.
