What's New on Bed Wars: Mega?

This edition includes lots of changes that you might want to know about!

NEW Map: Medieval

Made by Hwamz and forgiobombi, and with help from OkayMaybeImASimp

New Sudden Death border

We noticed that games often became stale after sudden death started, so we added some new features to fix that, as well as to make Draws more unlikely:

  • 5min after Sudden Death, team & diamond generators stop working and a border starts closing up, giving players 5min to reach the areas around mid (border phase 1).
  • 10min after Sudden Death, the border stops moving for 1 minute, and emerald generators get disabled.
  • 11min after Sudden Death, the border starts moving again at a slower pace.
  • 15min after Sudden Death, the border has reached its minimum size, which is different on each map and made to remove a team’s ability to single-handedly stall.
  • 20min after Sudden Death, if no team has eliminated the other yet, the match is considered a draw.

The timers for these in-game events will be visible in the scoreboard to make them easier to track.

Added support for duo parties

Players can now queue with a friend, and the matchmaker now has that into account when making teams. A duo may get automatically split on rare occasions if its existence doesn’t allow for game balance or if it causes very deterministic matchups (where a solo is always forced to play against that duo). However, this should not affect the grand majority of duos.

New Team Upgrade: Enemy Base Health Boost

To empower attackers in the mid/late game, we’ve added a new Team Upgrade that gives attackers absorption hearts when entering an enemy island.

  • For 10 emeralds, unlock the tier 1 upgrade, allowing your team to gain 1 absorption heart when entering the enemy island.
  • For 20 emeralds, unlock the tier 2 upgrade, allowing your team to gain 2 absorption hearts when entering the enemy island.

The absorption heart gain is limited to once per life to encourage players to commit to an attack rather than try to regain absorption hearts by staying near the limits of the enemy island.

Frozen Fields map revamped

We’ve heard the feedback from last edition’s survey, and made the following changes to the map:

  • Completely removed water from the playable areas of the map and replaced it with ice.
  • Expanded and opened up the mid island.
  • Improved access to villagers on player islands.
  • Opened up new paths around the map for easier mobility.
  • Added a 2nd Specialist and Enchanter at mid, so that both the mid islands have access to them.

Improved the Enemy Radar

The enemy radar will now show an icon on the scoreboard when an enemy is close to a bed, indicating which bed it is. The radar will also be quieter by default but go back to the normal volume once an enemy is close to one of the beds.

Team chest expanded to 3 pages (54 → 135 slots)

This should reduce the likelyhood of the ender chest filling up with items like on previous editions.

New item: Jump Boost V for 8s for 1 emerald at the Specialist

We want to give players more options to run away from big crowds and do interesting plays, and we believe this new item does exactly that, without it being too OP.
It’s been added to the Specialist villager at mid.

Left/Right texts and icons localized to your team

Enemy directions were confusing as the enemy’s “left bed” was seen from their perspective while your “left bed” was from your team’s perspective. Now all texts are seen from your team’s perspective, and the enemies see it from their perspective.

Improved Scoreboard

The scoreboard now shows the direction localization improvements, the timer for the incoming in-game events, and the number of players alive on a team when this one got both their beds broken

Added Sky Markers for beds

Beds now have a marker in the sky to show their general location, and this marker updates to glass when the bed has been broken.

Balance changes

  • (BUFF) Map price reduced 5 → 2 emeralds.
  • (NERF) Creeper arrow price increased from 2 arrows for 32 iron → 1 arrow for 32 iron.
  • (BUFF) Ender Pearls at mid 15 → 10 emeralds.
  • (BUFF) Maximum Team Golems 1 → 3. Individual cap stays at 1 golem.
  • Emerald and Diamond generators are now excluded from the speed multipliers that happen when there’s lots of players on each team.
  • Changed Bedwars points received for certain actions:
    • Your team breaks a bed: 100 → 50 points
    • (NEW) Breaking a bed: 50 points (+50 from team break, 100 points)
    • (NEW) Assisting a bed: 25 points (+50 from team break, 75 points)
    • Final Kill: 20 → 15 points
    • Win 100 → 200 points
  • Ranking is now based on normal Bedwars points, and has been increased to reward a higher percentage of players.
  • Reworked quest about using 10 TIMV items to instead using TIMV items on 8 matches.
  • Reworked quest about using 5 CAI items to instead using CAI items on 5 matches.
